We are all human… and with our humanness comes “fatigue” after we have been doing something difficult for a long period of time. We are also social beings, and maintaining social distance from others is REALLY hard. Even for the most hard-core introverts, social distancing and mask wearing is starting to wear people thin. We are literally running the “ultra” marathon of keeping COVID contained in our community.
The warm weather has been a lifesaver for me personally, as I have been able to gather outdoors at a distance with friends and family. We have been able to travel and explore our beautiful state with either day trips, hiking or camping. But with colder weather coming, and “covid fatigue” I am worried that I will become less vigilant when it comes to social distancing and gathering as we move into the winter months.
The reality is, things are tough. Life right now is stressful and unpredictable for all of us, regardless of your personal situations. It feels like it is time to double down on extreme self-care. I have always been an advocate for extreme self-care I first wrote about it in 2011, but I think now more than ever we need to give ourselves permission to take care of ourselves in BOLD ways, so we can get through each day, week and month.
Here are some ideas for extreme self-care during the colder months:
-
Get outside! Even with the weather getting chillier, with the Colorado sun on your face taking a walk in colder weather can actually be very refreshing and invigorating, be sure to bundle up
-
Take Bubble and Epsom salt baths at least once a week!
-
Indulge in your favorite foods; cook from scratch or order takeout from your favorite restaurants
-
Meditate for 10-20 minutes a day
-
Take a nap in the middle of the day (I know, it sounds revolutionary doesn’t it?)
-
Move your body with Yoga, Pilates, Dance (it doesn’t have to be strenuous, but has to be FUN!)
-
Take online classes that get your smile and/or creativity going
-
Get massages, acupuncture and chiropractic adjustments regularly
-
Give yourself a manicure or pedicure, or go out and treat yourself to one (your local nail salon needs your support)
-
Find an online therapist and talk with them weekly
-
Schedule regular virtual gatherings with family and friends…stay connected!
-
Read voraciously
-
Listen to music that soothes your soul or rocks your world.
-
Take up puzzling, coloring or painting and do it while listening to good music, a book on tape or a podcast.
All of these activities create bandwidth in your psyche to help withstand the stress of these times and COVID fatigue. We are all in this together! My promise to you is that The Wellness Center team will continue to remain vigilant in our COVID protocols to maintain a SAFE space for you to come in, relax and receive.
We are grateful for YOU and our community. Permission granted to indulge in Extreme Self-Care!
In Health,
