Does anyone feel like they are living in a time warp? Some days I feel like there are not enough hours in the day, other days I feel like things are dragging and I have no motivation to do anything, but “doomscroll” on my phone which only makes me more depressed and agitated. Haven’t heard the term, doomscrolling? Well it is a new term that has sprouted up in response to the COVID pandemic.
What is Doomscrolling?
While doomscrolling existed—in practice, before COVID hit, Merriam-Webster points out that it’s really taken hold lately. It’s not just about the virus, though: People can doomscroll through news about small businesses shuttering, our soaring unemployment rates, racial injustice, lives being lost from shootings, police brutality, you name it.
For your own health, wellness and sanity during this time, try to limit the amount of time you allow yourself to doomscroll. I have found that I am in a much better state of mind if I limit my social media and media digestion to a MAX of one hour per day. On the weekends, I try to “shut” off media, with the exception of uplifting or funny movies or facetime sessions with friends and family.
Slow Down
One benefit that came from being forced to shelter in place was that we were all forced to SLOW down (with the exception of essential workers). Which is such a contrast to the “busy” life we lived pre-covid, where every single moment was filled with something. Suddenly we all found ourselves at home… with swaths of time that were previously filled with social engagements, shopping, going to shows, etc. We found ourselves replacing these events with at home entertainment options: painting, drawing, writing, reading, puzzling, game playing, and so on. This slowing down was THE greatest gift for many of us.
For our therapists, practitioners and staff, it was the first time their bodies got a complete “break.” While it was a forced break, it was still a break nonetheless and a nice time to “catch” our breath and do things around the house that we never had time for before.
Now many of us are slowly getting back to work and a “semi” normal life. It is a good time to remind ourselves to take things slowly as we re-enter. To allow plenty of margin and down time throughout our days and weeks. To continue to do things that nurture our souls: long walks in nature, hot baths, reading, writing, time connecting with friends and family either virtually or at a distance. Hopefully, post COVID we will live a life of less stress and busyness, and have more time to reflect and take care of ourselves.
Your Beacon of “Normalcy”

I am so grateful for our community! It is hard to believe that we have been reopened for close to 4 months! While it took some time to adjust to our new COVID protocol, our team is feeling very safe and well taken care of. We hope you do too! Click here to read our new safety protocols.
We hope to be a beacon of “normalcy” for you during this time, a safe place for you to come and receive Acupuncture and/or Therapeutic Bodywork, which is even more important and essential during this time of strict social distancing.
We hope to see all of your masked smiling faces in the coming months!
In Health,
