The answer to this question is yes and no.  Of course there is more to life than laundry, dishes and cooking, there’s People - Husband and Wife doing dishessleeping in, beautiful sunsets, long walks, vacations and much more.  In reality, 80% of our time in spent doing the everyday tasks that keep us and our families healthy.   When you find peace and joy with the mundane, then you have reached a point of inner peace.  While vacations and new adventures are fun, they ultimately do not give you happiness.
I recently read a book on raising children.  The author, Sheri Moskowitz talked about how we all need to develop an attitude of tolerance for ordinary daily tasks.  In fact, it is essential to creating a sense of peace and even pleasure in everyday life.  Without it, life can feel empty and meaningless because you are constantly looking towards the next best thing.  You tell yourself, “I would be happy if I had this.” or  “I will be happy once this happens.”
Next time you are doing the dishes or cooking a meal, clear your mind and reflect on your day.  Allow this to be a time of mindful meditation.
Raise a glass to the ordinary today,
