There are many phrases or words that we resonate with. For me this week, a Massage Therapist that I was interviewing said that he lives an uncomplicated life. This phrase really stuck with me. As I feel it is a perfect description of how I am trying to live. A life that is simple and uncomplicated, which for me reduces stress and brings in more joy into my daily routine.
Living an uncomplicated life is not necessarily easy; you have to be intentional. Here are things that I have done that help me to live an uncomplicated life.
- I don’t watch or read the news (I generally hear about things on NPR in the car or through friends and family)
- I am on Facebook only once a week and for only 30 minutes, just to read the highlights
- I make lists of the priorities for the day and keep them under 5 items or to dos
- I shop for things once a month (food and groceries are not included in this). I do like shopping, but it can take so much time. Unless it is urgent (which typically it is not) the item goes on a list and then I try to run errands once a month
- I try not to over-schedule myself and my family, one main activity every weekend is perfect
- Letting go of expectations and judgement towards myself and others. It is so much work comparing yourself to others and judging others. We are all on this Earth with a certain journey, focus on yours.
- Maintaining a simple wardrobe of a few good pieces that fit me well and look good. I don’t have to think too much about what I am going to wear for the day and it frees up energy for other things.
What things do you do to help you live an uncomplicated life?
Happy Spring!
