The Biodynamic model of Craniosacral Therapy (BCST) is a fascinating healing modality. First and foremost, it is a modality that honors the client’s well-being…physically, emotionally and spiritually. BCST holds true to the osteopathic tenet that the body has the inherent ability to heal itself and empowers clients by taking an “inside-out” approach.
“Biodynamic” refers to a branch of Craniosacral Therapy that is not manipulative. Instead of trying to figure out the client’s problem and move tissues toward a hypothetical ideal symmetry, the practitioner creates a supportive environment so that the client’s system generates therapeutic change from within.
“Craniosacral” refers to a gentle therapy based on the ca. 1920 discovery of a micro-motion in the body. It specifically indicates the importance of the central structures of the body including cranium, spine and sacrum and addresses the natural rhythm and the healing capabilities of the fluid around our brain and spinal cord.
What makes this practice so fascinating is the dynamic relationship between the client and the practitioner. A skilled practitioner listens to the subtle pulsations of the system as the body tells its story. The body speaks through its rhythms, micro-movements and especially through its experience- managing patterns of physical shaping. With deep listening, the practitioner encourages revitalization of the inherent healing potential of the system and facilitates the release of resistance patterns. This approach emphasizes listening to the Health of the system and supporting its healing expression.
Some of the benefits of Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy include:
- Balances the Autonomic Nervous System
- Injuries heal more quickly
- Health problems improve
- Better sleep
- Minimize or relieve headaches
- Increased Lymph/Cardiovascular circulation
- Stress relief
- More energy
- Mental clarity
During a craniosacral session, you can expect to have subtle touch placed on your face, head, neck, sacrum and feet. Hands may also be placed at the sight and adjacent areas of an injury. Your practitioner will slowly and with little pressure, sense, palpate the bones, fluid and tissue within the client’s system. The practitioner then holds the space for clients’ existing health to emerge and expand.
The Wellness Center is proud to have two highly skilled Biodynamic Craniosacral practitioners on staff, Bill Woodall, CMT and Amy Gage, CMT. Both therapists have been long time practitioners of Biomechanical Craniosacral Therapy, but as is the case with many Craniosacral pioneers and seasoned therapists, they began to sense deeper levels of rhythms or universal forces within the body. To work more fully within this modality, Bill and Amy recently completed an intensive 700 hour Biodynamic Craniosacral Program. Read what some of their clients are saying about their BCST experiences…
I had Bells Palsey in March of 2015. The right side of my face became paralyzed and I could not blink. It was terrifying! Out of desperation I took prednisone and the paralysis went away. However when I decreased the dose to wean off the prednisone, I noticed symptoms of facial paralysis again and I panicked because I heard that the paralysis could become permanent.
I called the Wellness Center and asked for help. They recommended BCST and thankfully were able to set me an appointment with Bill Woodall. When Bill treated me I confess I wondered what I was paying for because the treatment technique was very subtle. Then I relaxed and fell asleep during the first session. When I awoke Bill told me he had completed the treatment and that he had sensed movement and healing.
Immediately following the treatment I felt better and noticed my face seemed slightly improved. Within two hours I was amazed that the paralysis in my face was completely gone! I was so grateful and relieved! I had two more follow up treatments and have had no problems since.
I believe BCST it is a very effective treatment and I am truly thankful I found out about it.
Thank you Bill!!!!
