Not sure if this is because I am getting older and I just don’t move as fast, but I really hate rushing around. I have learned that it is a nice to schedule lots of open space between activities, so there is time to grab lunch, talk with a neighbor or take the impromptu phone call from a friend.  It definitely has taken some time for me to get to a point in my life where I feel like I have spaciousness.
There are a few things that help me to maintain that balance:Balance zen stones in sand

  • Saying “no” to things that don’t add to my life, knowing what my boundaries are
  • Putting my head in the sand when it comes to news. I hardly ever read or watch the news. I do listen to NPR in the car, but that is about it. I figure if it is important enough I will hear about it through my friends, neighbors and colleagues.
  • I only jump on Facebook once a week, because I find it is a huge time suck, but I still enjoy going on to see what everyone is up to.
  • I have many of our monthly bills on autopay so I don’t even need to think about it, I wish that reconciling my account could be automatic.
  • Only buy what I need, I try really hard to keep my life simple. I don’t always succeed, but I try really hard not to bring in a bunch of new things into my sphere.

Here’s to keeping it simple.
