This is a question that I am constantly pondering… from do we need a bigger home, to what toys does my daughter really need?
If we as Americans only purchased the things that we “really” needed, our homes would certainly be a lot smaller and less cluttered.   In celebration of Earth Day this year, consider how much you really need and next time that shiny new car calls your name… think twice.
If I truly spent money only on what I needed, then I would have more money saved in the bank, which gives me the freedom to live more simply and not get bogged down with unnecessary objects and unconscious Excited Shopping Womanconsuming.
Don’t get me wrong I still buy things, but I am a much more conscious spender.  I choose to spend money on organic foods and vitamins since my health is important to me.  I invest in yoga and exercise classes.  I buy a majority of my clothes and my daughter’s clothes at consignments stores and am constantly trolling craigs list for household items.
How you spend your money is a reflection of your values.  It is easy to get caught up in society’s materialistic values, especially when you are young.   Take some time to determine what your priorities and values are, which will help you become a more empowered consumer.
Here’s to living in abundance with exactly what we need.
Happy Earth Day!
