OK I have a confession… ever since Maya was born I have been a very bad in the self-care department.  I have been to one yoga class in the last 6 months, and I just went in for my first massage this past Sunday since Maya was born.  I know what you are thinking… how can it be so hard?  You own a Wellness Center?!
This is a classic example of how life is not always perfectly packaged.  Where there are some phases in our life where things get thrown off balance, a new baby, death in the family, move, job change, divorce, marriage etc.   Sometimes our own needs drop to the bottom of the stack.  We are built to handle times like these, humans are extremely resilient.  We can’t continue to give, give, give and expect that we won’t burnout.
Making self-care a priority can lead to a richer life.  A life with more energy to give to others, less stress and more joy.
So even though my body has been able to function for the past 6 months, it hasn’t been functioning at its best.  When I got the massage on Sunday, I realized that every part of my body was tight and constricted.  My goal for the rest of the month is to try to get a massage and attend a yoga class every week.  I know that realistically I probably will miss some weeks, but with the intention in place I will definitely be taking care of myself much more than I have been.
Start with small baby steps.  If you feel like you are strung out and totally stressed, try to plan something small every week that will help you slow down and get in touch with your body.  Of course being a massage member is a great way to make sure you at least take time once a month to focus on yourself.  When we surveyed our members, many said they were a massage member because it forced them to take care of themselves, the money savings was an added bonus.
Embrace your massage membership, realize this is a necessary part of your personal wellbeing we give you permission to take care of yourself.  We celebrate you and your health!
In gratitude,
