On Monday, my husband and I celebrated our 1 year wedding anniversary. We took the day to celebrate being together. Nothing fancy, just a nice dinner out and walk around the neighborhood together. It is always a good reminder that life is all about time well spent with those we love.
As I have gotten older and wiser, I have learned to value time over money. Time is one of the most valuable gifts we can give to ourselves and our family. Creating a daily ritual of hanging out with those you love on a regular basis improves your well-being and that of your children also. A study done by Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey found that children who ate with their family tended to eat more fruits and vegetables. In addition, teens that ate with their family regularly showed fewer signs of depression and reported that they felt their family was more supportive.
Enjoy these last few weeks of summer. Go to the farmers market, eat dinner on the back deck, go to your favorite restaurant with an outdoor patio, visit the botanic gardens, have a picnic in Wash Park by the flowers, and take an evening walk and enjoy the breeze and beautiful sunsets.
Wishing you and your family much health and happiness,
