Most recently I have been thinking a lot about what it means to be abundant…
What does abundance mean? Is it having enough money in the bank to retire, owning a big home and a nice car, feeling at peace with yourself, having lots of friends and a strong community? Is it all of those things? In many ways yes and no. The feeling of abundance can be defined by so many different things and it is so unique to the individual. It is easy in our society to be led astray from what is true abundance due to our cultural obsession with material goods and consumerism.
Since we are creatures of comparison it is easy to feel a lack of abundance when it comes to material possessions, when we compare our life to others and we get caught in the trap of never having enough. I believe that feeling abundance is more of an inner feeling of peace and well-being that does not come from having material possessions. For me abundance is about freedom and having the ability to choose to live the life I want. To live in a safe community surrounded by people that I care about and to be healthy and vital. Maintaining optimal health means having time and financial margin.
When I start to long for more material possessions in my life, I have to remind myself what abundance truly means to me. What does abundance mean to you? Do you feel abundant?
