Ahh… summer is here and it is the perfect time for BBQs, summer reading, camping and traveling, and spending time with family and friends. Remember you don’t have to go too far for a mini-vacation.
Many of us live fast paced lifestyles on a day to day basis. Even our weekends are choked full of errands, cleaning, and social engagements. Many of us count on our vacations as our time to relax. Many times even vacations have their own set of stressors; delayed flights, inclement weather, learning a new area, eating new foods can all take their toll.
I challenge you to take a little time each day and week for mini guilt-free respites. Taking small amounts of time off will actually help you manage your stress, and stay alert and motivated. The time that we take each day to make a phone call to a good friend or a family member to tell them we love them, to take a deep breath and remind ourselves of all the things we are grateful for, sometimes these moments are the most important part of your day.
So honor yourself this summer and give yourself mini-breaks this summer.
Here are a few ideas to get you started:
- Bring a picnic lunch for yourself and sit outside and let the sun hit your face
- Go to a park, take off your shoes, lie down and watch the clouds go by
- Treat yourself to an afternoon cocktail
- Cook a new recipe
- Take a nap in the middle of the day
- Plan nothing over a weekend, make no commitments and follow your desires in the moment
- Come in and get a massage
- Pick up a new book and go to the pool
