You and The Wellness Center will help Grow Local Colorado turn the Governor’s Mansion Garden into Edible Landscaping
The Governor’s Mansion, or Boettcher Mansion, is infamous for their beautiful Summer spectacle of flowers and immaculate landscaping. This year, a few of their beds are going to be transformed into a source of nourishment for the hungry by Grow Local Colorado (GLC).
“We are absolutely thrilled to partner with Governor Hickenlooper to not only grow vegetables for the needy, but also to educate the community about how important it is to produce food for yourself and for your local food banks”, states Dana Miller, one of Grow Local’s Founders . “The benefits are countless but include: environmental protection, community building, getting connected to the earth and eating seasonally, help feed the hungry nutritionally rich food…the list goes on.”
The majority of GLC’s 14 gardens across the city are designed by Denver Botanic Gardens, tended by volunteers and paid for by donations or out of the pockets of GLC staff. This particular garden will be planted with help from Volunteers of Outdoor Colorado and then maintained and harvested throughout the growing season by a group of volunteers in the neighborhood. It will be funded by the generous donations from your massages at TWC. To learn more about GLC and track the evolution of the Governor’s garden visit – www.growlocalcolorado.org
