Spring is a time where our attention turns to “spring cleaning” – getting rid of clutter and old items that do not serve us anymore or have gathered dust. This can be in the workplace, home or personal areas of our lives, both physically and symbolically. For example, if those New Year’s resolutions haven’t quite kicked in yet, it may be time for a re-visit. Consider whether those resolutions really resonate with your core in present time, or if they were more of a response to the energy of 2011, the past. Rather than falling into a “gotta do” vibration, check in with what your true intentions are for 2012.
Did you intend to take better care of your body but haven’t quite scheduled that massage yet? Was a new class or hobby high on your list but seems to have fallen out of focus? Did you want to improve your health or financial situation but seem to rely on old habits to get you through the day? Whatever your goals were for 2012, do they still hold value and precedence for you now? With the New Year fully underway, have new priorities developed, or have those aspirations just been buried under stress and pressure from work, peers, friends or family? In keeping with the energy of spring, let your spirit to explore new possibilities for growth, allowing for change, rather than forcing it. Follow what intrigues you or that you enjoy, rather than what you think you “should” be doing and your life tends to renew naturally, rather than frantically.

Stuck on how to get started? One way is a twist on the environmental Reduce, Reuse, Recycle theme!
Reduce: Take a look in your closet, desk drawer or purse – do you really use or need all of that stuff in there?! You may only chose to let go of one or two items, but the feeling of release is priceless. Similarly, you may take a look at your schedule and decide to drop one or two commitments that are weighing you down. If you’re attending an event or going to the mall out of habit or obligation, consider re-vamping how you spend your time to better serve you in present time.
Reuse: Now that you’ve freed up your schedule and closet, is there something that you really have a desire to do or learn? Maybe it’s cooking, a new language or simply relaxing in the garden or on a massage table, re-using your time in a way that inspires you will revitalize your life in general.
Recycle: With everyone’s budget in the forefront of people’s thoughts, you could host or attend a clothing-swap (or anything-swap!) to let go of your tired items and possibly introduce some new energy into your own life. There are also many non-profit organizations that accept donations, as well as internet sites where you can swap books for free that you are done with.
In this action-oriented society, taking a moment for peace, to honor where you are right now can really benefit your whole day.
