I have worked in the wellness industry for over 10 years and I am still practicing the art of extreme self care. I hate to admit it, but it wasn’t until I experience adrenal fatigue a couple of years ago that I really woke up and realized that I had to make some drastic lifestyle changes. I realized I wasn’t walking my talk. It was a hard lesson to learn, I won’t go into here but you can read more at: http://www.adrenal-failure.com/adrenal-fatigue.html.
It always astounds me how much down time I need in my life right now. How one a day to day basis I have to live more intentionally to be in tune with my body. On Friday, I got a 1.5 hour massage (much needed) and then came home and needed a nap. My first tendency was to start berating myself saying how “lazy” I was. I caught myself thinking that conditioned response (because this is something that is conditioned into every hard working American), I consciously chose to ignore the though and called my friend to say I was going to be about 30 minutes late and proceeded to take a 20 minute nap. I woke up feel refreshed and had a great relaxed time with my girl friend.
This got me thinking about self care in general so I decided to write about the benefits of self care and why it is important. Because I know that in the outside world you are getting the exact opposite message. Work hard, push yourself and don’t lose your competitive edge. Well I am here to say, slow down, work smart, honor yourself and don’t worry about the competition. Live from a place of desire and pleasure. Live your best life yet.
Until next time,
Sharon
