A few months ago I had some blood work done, recommended by Dr. Tiffany Binder my Naturopath.  One of the tests that I did was on vitamin D levels.  I specifically tested vitamin D, 25 Hydroxy levels.  Which normal range is generally 32-100.  If you are below 32 in vitamin D levels then you are deficient in vitamin D. If you have vitamin D levels that are in the teens then it means you have the third world, nutrient deficient levels of vitamin D.
When Dr. Binder suggested I get my vitamin D tested, I was curious as to why.  From my perspective I get plenty of sunshine at least 20-30 minutes a day without sunscreen (I live in sunny Colorado), I eat well and take supplements.
Well to my surprise my vitamin D levels came in at 17.1.  Wow.  Currently, I am working on bringing my vitamin D levels and my adrenal health back to healthy functioning through supplements. I will keep you posted when my next blood test comes back.
If you are not sure what your vitamin D level is I strongly suggest you get it tested. If gone on undetected, it could leave you at risk for osteoporosis, fractures, autoimmune diseases, and heart disease.
Dr. Michael Holick, Ph.D., M.D.,  estimates that there are over one billion people worldwide at risk for vitamin D deficiency, with 30-50% of children and adults in the United States at high risk for this potentially life threatening condition.
Get your vitamin D levels tested to ensure that your body is getting enough of this important nutrient.
More to come…
